Our Plastic Surgery office in Wichita Kansas now offers Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) skin treatments, a safe and non-surgical cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates aging skin by restoring skin texture.  James Rieger MD utilizes concentrated serum processed from your own blood and places the platelet rich fibrin (PRF) into the skin surface using a new micro device called Aqua Gold. The treatment uses your own platelets and growth factors to trigger new collagen production, resulting in tighter, smoother and younger-looking skin. The PRF may also be placed as dermal filler using micro cannulas. (See our page on dermal fillers for information on micro cannulas).

What is PRF ?

The body contains many natural substances that promote healing and rejuvenation. However, many of these substances slow in production as we get older, and some areas of the body age more quickly than others. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) uses natural substances from the patient’s body to treat areas of the face that need focused rejuvenation. Long used to help heal injured athletes, PRP injections encourage the body to use its own natural processes to heal areas in need of additional help. Also known as the “vampire facelift,” this procedure can produce a more youthful complexion. The first phase of the procedure involves Dr. Rieger drawing your own blood and isolating the platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), a procedure that only takes a few minutes. He will use a machine to separate out the plasma and separate the platelets from the white and red blood cells. Advanced technology performs this action in approximately 5 minutes to produce platelet-rich fibrin. Changing the concentration of platelets in the plasma to be three to four times the normal level gives them more power to rejuvenate the skin, repair damaged tissues, and reverse the signs of aging. These growth factors are injected back into the area of the skin being treated. This results in rejuvenated and younger-looking skin. This procedure has minimal discomfort.  Click here to view more information on this website about PRF and why it is better than PRP.

Why PRF versus PRP (Platelet rich plasma)?

The new technique of using PRF has many advantages over using PRP (plasma). PRF does not require processing with any added chemicals. PFR does not require adding bovine thrombin or anticoagulants. PRF is more concentrated with growth factors. One of the main advantages of this procedure is that there is no risk for allergic reaction because it uses your own blood only.

Aqua Gold and PRF

Dr. James Rieger uses the AquaGold Fine Touch micro needling to inject the PRF into the face and neck. The 24 karat gold needles have micro channels allowing the PRF to travel directly into the skin in a controlled manner. This new technology offers a big advantage over other micro needling techniques that do not directly inject the PRF into the skin. The platelets and growth factors within the PRF should help repair the aging or damaged tissues. Immediately after treatment, you may experience temporary redness and a micro needling appearance, but you should be ready to go about daily normal indoor activity the same day. As time passes, the concentrated PRF helps to improve the quality of skin, giving you a more youthful appearance and glow. The tiny micro channels close within one hour, so post-procedure infections are extremely rare.  The procedure can be repeated every four weeks as desired for your best outcome. If desired, PRF can be injected as a filler to further enhance the results.  (See our page of dermal fillers for information on micro cannulas).
